The National Disaster Management Authority, Pakistan, organized an
International Conference of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO)
member countries on Disaster Risk Management, to commemorate the 1st
National Awareness Day held in Islamabad, Pakistan on 8-10 October
2007.
The Inauguration Ceremony of the Conference was graced by His
Excellency, Mr.Shaukat Aziz, Prime Minister Pakistan, Federal and
State Ministers, Federal Secretaries and Additional Secretaries ,
Country Heads of UN Organizations and I/NGO's and representatives of
local and national civil society organizations.
Head of ASRC Dr.Fatemi Aghda and an Iranian delegation comprising a
team of experts from different fields headed by Mr. Hashemi,
participated in the Conference. In his presentation, he elaborated
on the possibility of prediction of earthquakes through technology
and instruments developed at the Natural Disaster Research Institute
of Iran. He affirmed that the result of this technology which has
been used for prediction of earthquakes across the country were
reliable, authentic and sound. He also talked about the strategies
implemented, their outcomes, challenges and lessons learnt in
dealing with disaster. All in all, participants emphasized the
widespread prevalence of specific examples of good practice in ECO
countries and the need to learn from these experiences and
traditional knowledge |
