Meeting of Head ASRC with Heads of National Academia and Earthquake related Institutional Authorities

In this meeting held on December 18, 2007 Dr. Fatemi Aghda, Head of ASRC, gave a brief introduction with regard to the need for establishment of this Center and its institutional structure. He then outlined the objectives, plans and programs of ASRC. The Working Group tasked for preparing the Constitution of the Center has finalized the contents and has started preparing the Action Plan of the ASRC. The participants expressed their pleasure and appreciation at the establishment of this Center hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran. They have also voiced their readiness for cooperation and collaboration with the Center in line with its objectives and mandate.

 They also proposed certain recommendations and guidelines keeping in view their expertise and knowledge. There was a special focus on developing internal by-laws for defining the role of each institution and scientific center for discharging their tasks related to better achievement of the goals and objectives set forth by the Center. It was decided that these scientific sessions would be held on a regular basis for harmonious functioning and review of progress made by the Center. Some participants expressed concern at the lack of information about the activities that other countries in the region have taken on risk reduction. They hoped that this gap would be filled in the future through translation and compilation of researches and studies conducted by the regional countries and would be utilized and shared by all.
